Bollywood gets PATRIOTIC All Over Again!

Bollywood has always worn its patriotism on its sleeve.

And so, we've seen a lot of such films roll out through the years.

Of course, it's not done yet.

Joginder Tuteja looks at the patriotic movies coming up in 2022.

 

Prithviraj

Based on the 12th century monarch Prithviraj Chauhan's life and times, Prithviraj is a Yash Raj Films production.

Akshay Kumar has been dabbling in films with a patriotic theme -- Sooryavanshi, Bell Bottom, Mission Mangal, Kesari -- and he returns to lead the march here.

 

Major

Major is about NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was killed at the Taj during the 26/11 attacks.

Telugu actor Adivi Sesh, who makes his Hindi film debut, sought the help of Major Unnikrishnan's parents Dhanalakshmi and K Unnikrishnan to get it right.

 

Rocketery: The Nambi Effect

If the trailer of Rocketery: The Nambi Effect is any indication, it will bring on goose bumps when the film plays on the screen.

R Madhavan's directorial debut is about the ISRO scientist who was wrongly charged with espionage.

 

Maidaan

Based on Syed Abdul Rahim, the 'architect of India's football team post independence', Maidaan has been patiently waiting for the right time to release.

Ajay Devgn plays Rahim in this film directed by Amit Ravindranath Sharma of Badhaai Ho fame.

 

Captain India

Captain India is said to be inspired by one of India's biggest and most successful rescue missions from a war-torn country.

It will be an unusual role for Kartik Aaryan, best known for his light-hearted performances.

Mission Majnu

After Shershaah, Sidharth Malhotra moves on to his next patriotic film, Mission Majnu, an espionage thriller where Sid gets a mission to serve his country.

 

Tejas

After Manikarnika - The Queen of Jhansi and Thalaivi, Kangana Ranaut moves on to yet another intense role with nationalism as the central theme.

Playing a woman pilot in the Indian Air Force, Kangana is expected to get the body language and characterisation right in this patriotic action drama.

 

Yodha

While one waits to see if Sidharth Malhotra -- who was a revelation as Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra in 2021's Shershaah -- plays a soldier in Yodha, the film is definitely an action-packed outing for the actor.

Karan Johar announced -- even before its release -- that Yodha will spin an action franchise.

 

Sam Bahadur

Sam Manekshaw led the Indian Army in the 1971 War.

Vicky Kaushal will play the legendary general in Meghna Gulzar's film.

 

Pippa

While he has been seen in movies as diverse as Dhadak and Khaali Peeli, Ishaan Khatter steps into the most challenging role in his brief career so far with Pippa.

Yet another film set during the 1971 War, the Raja Krishna Menon film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli and Soni Razdan.
