The film is about a girl who is deeply interested in counter terrorism and the people who work as counter terrorism experts. Her interest is sparked after her sister dies in the 9/11 attacks. "It [the 9/11 attacks and her sister's death] affects her life deeply," says Bipasha. "She wants to know why terrorism takes place and how people who tackle it work."

Mumkin is directed by Tanveeer Khan, who had written the dialogue for films like Raja and Ishq. It is produced by Anil Sharma, who earlier made films like Suhag, Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet and Aashiq. "My dream of becoming a director has finally materialised with this film," said Tanveer.
Roop Kumar Rathod will score the music for the film. The other actors who will act in the film are Priyanshu Chatterjee and television star Shweta Tiwari, who acts as Prerna in Kasuti Zindagi Ki.
He revealed that he had a friend who was a counter terrorism expert in Jammu & Kashmir. "When I first heard the script [of Mumkin], I thought, 'My God! This is the story of my friend who was killed by terrorists'."
"I was supposed to visit him in J&K. He had said he would take me around there. Unfortunately, he died before that could happen. My role will be a tribute to him," added John.
Asked whether the duo planned to act in more films, Bipasha said, "There are many offers but not very good ones. When we get good roles, we will sign up for more."
