White paper on black money: The full story

On Monday, the government tabled its much-awaited White Paper on black money in the Parliament.

The 97-page document tabled by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee made a strong case for setting up Lokpal and Lokayuktas. Though, there was no was mention of government's estimate of black money within and outside the country, it pitched for courts to expeditiously deal with the offence.

To ensure that this menace

is curtailed in the future, it suggested tax incentives for encouraging use of debit and cards as these lead audit trails.

Through this document, the government hopes to dismiss the impression that it was not doing enough to deal with black money menace.
