Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday announced that the Lokayukta for the state would be appointed by August this year.

"The process to appoint Lokayukta and set up infrastructure to house his office will start now. We expect Lokayukta to be appointed before August this year," Parrikar told reporters.

Parrikar said that the Goa Lokayukta Bill 2011 got the approval from President of India in a record time of 65 days and the state government was following up the file at each stage.

"Preferably, a retired judge from Goa may get appointed as Lokayukta. This is my personal opinion," he said adding "Lokayukta will be appointed by Governor in consultation with the Chief Minister who will consult the High Court and Leader of Opposition before finalising the name."

The State government has also decided to appoint a deputy Lokayukta, who will assist the Lokayukta.

The cases related to 'big fishes' would be handled by Lokayukta, he said adding that every politician who has done wrong should be ready to face the consequences.

The notification of Goa Lokayukta Bill 2011 was issued on Sunday.
