MD held for selling sub-standard silicon to BHEL

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the managing director of a Haridwar-based firm for supplying sub-standard silicon to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited for Rs 1.16 crore (Rs 11.6 million), CBI sources said on Thursday.
Shravan Kumar Gupta, managing director of Haridwar-based Asian Ferro Alloys Limited, was arrested on Wednesday.
According to sources, Gupta's company was awarded the contract for providing silicon to BHEL in 2009.
The company supplied silicon to BHEL and was paid Rs 1.16
crore.
Later, it was found out that the company provided sub-standard silicon to BHEL, following which a complaint was lodged and the CBI launched an investigation.
