Follow the NCERT syllabus, take up mocks, and evaluate your performance from time to time.

Dreaming of wearing the white apron and having the title of a doctor prefixed to your name?

The first step to realising this dream is to fine-tune your preparation to crack the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT).

Considered one of the toughest entrance examinations in the country, the AIPMT is your gateway to pursue MBBS or become a dentist.

The examination is conducted annually by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Applicants can apply for the examination online -- right from registration to submission of documents.

The AIPMT is taken by thousands of students from across the country.

A considerable amount of dedication and devotion will make sure you ace the test with flying colours.

The AIPMT this year will comprise one paper containing 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology).

The duration of paper would be three hours.

The exam is scheduled on Sunday, May 3, 2015, between 10 am and 1 pm..

Here are some tips to help you get started with.

Refer the NCERT Syllabus

Develop a strong base by studying the class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus thoroughly.

This will give you a clear understanding of all the basic fundamentals related to Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Solve previous year's question papers of AIPMT to pep up your preparation.

Revise well

While learning, you should include all the topics that are there in the syllabus.

Make sure that you revise everything more than once so that your chances of missing out on any important information is less.

Concentrate

Dedicate exclusive study hours in a day and get rid of all those things that hamper your concentration like television, cell phones, video games, etc during those few hours.

Utilise your time

Given the limited time available at your disposal, it is important that you plan your study hours well and devote adequate time for all subjects.

Use your time sagaciously and efficiently.

Keep a check on your study schedule and see how you have been performing.

Assign deadlines and ask these questions at the end of every study week.

Online mock tests

The internet revolution has made studying a cakewalk for students.

Many e-learning platforms provide the facility of mock practice tests that will enable you to enhance your learning.

Opt for mock tests to revise efficiently.

You can take up both chapter-wise and syllabus-wise test series to see how well you're doing.

Evaluate your performance

At the end of every mock test, remember to evaluate your performance.

Figure out your mistakes and find out how you can improve your weak areas.

Compare your performance from your previous score and also with toppers to know where you stand in the competition.

Be positive

A positive attitude and a positive mindset can alone motivate you to study better. Do not be carried away by distractions.

Always remember the five Ps when you kick start your studies -- Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.
