These are the best value for money bikes in terms of the money they save by using less fuel to run longer distances

Mileage is the first thing everybody looks for while buying a commuter motorcycle. India being the biggest two-wheeler market offers large number of motorcycles in the segment but not every bike comes as a winner in terms of mileage. Manufacturers try to bring new technologies that not only improve the mileage but also bring better performance.

Here is a list of five most fuel efficient motorcycles of 2015.

Bajaj Platina ES: 96.90kmpl

Bajaj reintroduced its entry level commuter Platina in January 2015. The bike, priced at Rs 44,507, claims to deliver an impressive mileage of 96.9kmpl. The latest version of Platina features a new DTS-i engine along with some changes in bodywork.

The 2015 Platina ES is equipped with a new 102cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, DTS-i engine and is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The bike uses carburetor type fuel injection and generates 8.1bhp power output along with 8.6Nm of peak torque.

New TVS Sport: 95kmpl

When we talk about fuel economy, the new TVS Sport comes a close second. This year, TVS Motor introduced the updated version of its popular model, TVS Sport at Rs 36,800 with an improved mileage. The bike claims to return 95kmpl under standard driving conditions.

To enhance the mileage of the motorcycle, the company has used DuraLife engine, which contains chrome plated piston rings and roller cam follower that generates less friction and stress on the engine, improving the mileage efficiency of the motorcycle.

Hero Motocorp Splendor Pro Facelift: 90Kmpl

Country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero was not much behind in updating its product portfolio in 2015. The company brought the facelift version of its most popular motorcycle series, Splendor Pro at Rs 46,850 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike returns 90kmpl.

The newest member of the Splendor series offers new aerodynamic visor, clear lens turning blinkers, side stand indicator and a body coloured rear view mirrors. The legendary 97.2cc, 4-stroke engine generates 8.2bhp power output along with 8.05Nm of maximum torque.

Bajaj CT 100: 89.5kmpl

Indian manufacturer, Bajaj Auto is known for producing fuel economical bikes. In the month of February, the company re-launched its 100cc commuter, CT100 in the Indian market at Rs 36,000. CT 100 is amongst the most affordable commuters in the country and returns an attractive mileage of 89.5kmpl.

Propelled by a 99.27cc engine, the bike has 8.1bhp of power and 8.05Nm of torque. The bike features ExhausTEC and comes mated to a 4-speed gearbox via wet multi-plate clutch assembly.

Hero Motocorp HF Deluxe Eco: 87.7kmpl

In May 2015, Hero introduced HF Deluxe Eco at Rs 46,150 in its product lineup. As the name suggests, it is an environmental friendly ‘ECO’ version and offered with a green shade, a contoured front mud guard, an in-built fuel-filler cap and a slightly longish silencer. The bike returns a decent mileage of 87kmpl.

Mechanically, the new Eco version houses a 97cc engine that produces 8.2bhp of power along with the peak torque of 8.05Nm.
