A finger injury kept Pakistan middle-order batsman Umar Akmal out of practice, a development which could affect his chances of replacing his brother Kamran behind the stumps against Zimbabwe in the World Cup league match in Pallekele on Monday.

Umar, who is being tipped to replace Kamran behind the stumps for the Group A clash here, took a blow to his right index finger at the fielding practice on Thursday.

Team manager Intikhab Alam, however, said Umar's injury is not a serious one and the scans show there is no fracture. He said Umar was rested from the team practice as a precautionary measure.

Kamran was under pressure to retain his place in the side after dropping a couple of easy chances in Pakistan's 110-run defeat at the hands of New Zealand on Tuesday.

Umar has experience behind the stumps after he kept wicket during three Twenty20 games against New Zealand last year as well as in an ODI against South Africa.

Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Waqar Younis carried out an extensive three-hour plus training session today in which batsmen were tested in a match-like situation by their own bowlers.

Pakistan has six points from four matches in the World Cup Group A. They defeated Kenya, Sri Lanka and Canda before losing to New Zealand.
