The most valuable player index (MVPI) is calculated by adding together a player's batting, bowling and fielding index. The batting index is based on a combination of runs scored and strike rate; the bowling index uses a combination of the number of wickets taken and the economy rate; and the fielding index is based on the number of catches taken and the fielder's participation in run-out dismissals.

Dilshan (467) and Tendulkar (464) are in the race to earn this World Cup's 'orange cap' for most runs, although Sangakkara (417), Tharanga (393) and Sehwag (380) are also in the fray.

Zaheer Khan (19) has the best opportunity to challenge Shahid Afridi (21) for the World Cup's 'purple cap' for most wickets. Muralitharan (15) and Yuvraj Singh (13) are unlikely to challenge Afridi or Zaheer.

Sehwag (123.4) has the highest strike rate among batsmen who have scored 200 or more runs. Other batsmen with a strike rate >90 and >200 runs are:? A B de Villiers (353 runs, 108.3 strike rate), J-P Duminy (224, 97.8), Andrew Strauss (334, 93.6), Mahela Jayawardene (201, 93.1), Dilshan (467, 93.0), Brendon McCullum (256, 92.4), Shane Watson (290, 92.4), Michael Clarke (233, 91.0) and Sachin Tendulkar (464, 91.0).

With an economy rate of 3.6 and 21 wickets, Shahid Afridi is?the best bowler by a long mile.

Other bowlers with an economy rate <4.5 and 12 or more wickets are: Imran Tahir (3.8, 14), Muralitharan (4.0, 15), Kemar Roach (4.2, 13) Dale Steyn (4,2, 12), Tim Southee (4.3, 18), Robin Peterson (4.3, 15), Brett Lee (4.3, 13), Jacob Oram (4.4, 12), Umar Gul (4.5, 14) and Graeme Swann (4.5, 12).?
