Michael Clarke’s wicket has to be the turning point of the day.
- Day 2: Where India got it wrong
The Australian captain (103 not out overn
ight) had settled down and looked set for a long innings, a la Sydney (2012). He combined well with Peter Siddle (19), adding 54 vital runs for the eighth wicket.
However, it was a momentary lapse of concentration that cost Clarke his wicket.
After having curbed his aggressive instincts for most parts of the morning session, he scored only one boundary in the period, Clarke stepped out of his crease and hit a Ravindra Jadeja delivery straight to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar at long-off.
It was a careless shot to say the least, coming from Australia’s captain and best batsman. And it cost the visitors a few vital runs, most certainly a 400-plus total (read psychological advantage).
