Injury puts Yuvraj out of Australia match

October 28, 2006 17:29 IST

Yuvraj Singh will miss Sunday's do-or-die Champions Trophy match against world champions Australia.

The Indian all-rounder injured his left knee after slipping during a game of kho-kho that the team played at the start of a net session on Saturday morning in Mohali.

Board of Control for Cricket in India media manager Rajan Nair later informed that Yuvraj sustained a "cruciated ligament injury".

Nair said the left-hand batsman would leave for Mumbai on Saturday evening for consultation with the Board's injury specialist, Dr Anant Joshi.

Yuvraj's place is likely to be filled by Mohammad Kaif or Dinesh Mongia.

Yuvraj lay on the ground for several minutes writhing in pain as physio John Gloster attended to him. He then limped all the way to the dressing room and was in severe pain as he tried unsuccessfully to keep his left foot on the ground.

An MRI scan later revealed ligament tear.
