1. Shah Rukh Khan

December 24, 2007

Take your hats off, ladies and gents, the Emperor cometh.

King seems too little an epithet anymore as Shah Rukh Khan did the impossible this year. First, he single-handedly rejuvenated Yash Raj Films by giving them their only hit, the utterly atypical Chak De! India which won both critical acclaim and truckloads of money -- and he did this without a heroine or songs.

Then, he laughed hard -- at himself and then all of Bollywood -- with Om Shanti Om, a glorious celebration of the banalities and the insanity of our cinema, the madness that keeps us coming back for more.

Have you checked out our Year-end Specials?

Oh, and before all this, he ran a little talkshow called KBC.

One imagines Khan is smiling.

He's had a helluva busy year, but he's shown India who the boss is.
