The kimono craze
December 13, 2007
The Orient is exerting effect upon the fashion world -- just as Indian ethnic wear is showing up on ramps across the globe, the traditional Japanese kimono (a full-length, wrap-around robe, complete with collar and wide sleeves) has become the inspiration of many modern designer creations.
This year saw a lot of kimono-like clothing for the ladies -- blouses with the same billowing sleeves, silk skirts boasting traditional Japanese prints or embroidery and dresses with silk sashes worn high up at the waist. For those who like to flaunt it, there are also mini-dresses and plunging necklines available.
The style is still at the height of its popularity, probably because of its exotic, feminine charm. The gracious, smooth lines of the kimono are enough to make any woman feel like a Japanese empress!
