Not a year passes without the Bofors arms scandal making news in some form or the other.
In the 2007 season of the longest running scam soap in India, the star continues to be Ottavio Quattrocchi.
In February, the Indian media broke the story that Quattrocchi had been detained in Argentina and that country had asked India to proceed on the extradition process.
Alarmingly, the deadline for Indian officials was a mere week away when this news broke. It turned out that the country's elite investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation had been sleeping on the case.
A CBI team was then 'rushed' to Argentina, and the government there cleared his extradition. But when Quattrocchi moved a Buenos Aires court, the CBI came a cropper.
The judgment commented that the CBI's request was 'not backed by ample judicial documents.' To cap the humiliation, Quattrocchi cocked a snook at the CBI by getting the court to direct the agency to pay his legal costs!
