PCB trashes Sohail charge

In an official statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board rubbished former captain Aamir Sohail's allegations, and said they did not deserve a response.

It will be recalled that Sohail, on being dropped from the 19-member shortlist for the World Cup, had said that PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood had told him that he would have to drop charges of betting and match-fixing against Wasim Akram if he wished to form part of the World Cup team.

Sohail's claims were ''totally false'' and ''an attempt to settle scores with PCB for his ommission'', the board statement said. Mahmood himself did not make any direct comment on the allegations. However, the board spokesman said categorically that ''There has not been any contact, whatsoever, either directly or indirectly between Sohail and Chairman PCB Khalid Mahmood during the last three months and hence the question of an offer being made to the player does not arise.''
