This match was the 1480th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

This match was the 196th in World Cup history.

This match was India's 405th and New Zealand's 331st in LOIs.

This match was India's 44th and New Zealand's 43rd in the WC.

It was their 52nd meeting in LOIs and their 6th in the WC.

This match was the 21st LOI and the 11th in the WC to be played at this venue. It has now hosted the maximum WC matches than any other grounds in England, equalling the record of Headingley at Leeds.

This venue was hosting its third WC match of the tournament.

Chris Harris has joined Martin Crowe of having appeared in maximum 21 WC matches for New Zealand.

M Azharuddin was captaining his country in his 23rd WC match, which was the maximum by any player. Azhar bettered the WC record of Pakistani Imran Khan (22 matches) as captain.

Azharuddin won his 100th toss in his 174th match as a captain LOIs. Only Sri Lankan Arjuna Ranatunga in 193 matches has won more - 103.

Darrell Hair was umpiring in his 50th match. He becomes the sixth Australian and the 14th umpire in LOIs to do so. Englishman David Shepherd was officiating in his 84th LOI match. He equals the tally of Australian Tony Crafter. Now only Steve Randell of Australia has umpired in more LOI matches - 88.

The wicket of Tendulkar was Dion Nash's 50th of his career in his 66th match. He becomes the 13th New Zealander and 108th bowler in LOI history.

Rahul Dravid with a tally of 461 runs in this WC has placed himself in the fourth position among batsmen with maximum run aggregate in a single WC tournament. Only Tendulkar (523 runs in 1996), Australian Mark Waugh (484 in 1996) and Englishman Graham Gooch (471 in 1987) have scored more than Dravid in a single WC tournament.

The partnership of 90 between Ajay Jadeja and Azharuddin was India's second highest against New Zealand for the fourth wicket in LOIs. he best still remains as the unbeaten 105 between Dilip Vengsarkar and Kapil Dev at Sydney on 5-3-1985. However the pair bettered India's best against New Zealand for the fourth wicket in the WC. The previous best was 65 between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Azharuddin at Bangalore in the 1987 WC.

The partnership of 54 runs between Ajay Jadeja and Robin Singh was India's highest against New Zealand for the fifth wicket in the WC. The previous best was the 28 between Sidhu and Ravi Shastri at Bangalore in 1987 WC.

The wicket of Craig McMillan was Srinath's 232nd wicket of his career. He now equals the tally of Anil Kumble to become the joint second highest wicket taker for India in LOIs. Only Kapil Dev with 253 wickets have taken more. And in the all-time list only Pakistanis Wasim Akram (383 wickets) and Waqar Younis (285) have taken more wickets than the Indians.

Srinath has also taken his tally of wickets in the WC to 28, thus equalling the record of Kapil Dev for the maximum wickets by an Indian in the WC.

Matthew Horne's 74 was his fourth score of "fifty" in his LOI career. Interestingly, three of the fifties have come against India. His score was also his highest in LOIs. His previous highest was 61 against India at Napier on 12-1-1999. It was also his maiden fifty in the WC.

The partnership of 83 runs between Horne and Roger Twose was New Zealand's highest against India for the fourth wicket in the WC. The previous best was the 65 between Glenn Turner and Brian Hastings at Manchester in 1975 WC.

Anil Kumble's catch of Cairns makes him the fielder with maximum catches in the WC. It was his 13th catch. West Indians Clive Lloyd and Desmond Haynes, Indian Kapil Dev, Englishman Graeme Hick & New Zealander Chris Cairns are the others to take 12 catches each in the WC.

New Zealand's total of 253-5 was its highest against India in a WC match. The previous highest was the 236-8 at Bangalore in the 1987 WC.

India now holds the dubious record of being the only team in this WC not able to defend totals exceeding 250-plus not just once but on two occasions. India also against South Africa at Hove could not defend a total of 253-5.

It was Roger Twose's third Man of the match award in LOIs and his second in the WC. He had won an award against Australia at Cardiff on 20-5-1999.
