Dungarpur defends Azhar's leadership

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Raj Singh Dungarpur today stoutly defended Mohammad Azharuddin's leadership. "Tactically, I don't think he has made any mistake so far," he said.

Speaking to newsmen at Taunton, he said, "He led the side well. It was sheer bad luck that we lost to South Africa. Twenty or more runs, and we would have won the tie, there is no question about that.
"We gave our best display against South Africa; we need such spirited performances with a bit of luck."

To a query on Azhar's communication skills on the field, Dungarpur said he had been like that for the last ten years. "When he was winning, nobody raised these questions. But now that we are slightly low, these questions are being raised."

Asked whether India had a chance to make it to the Super Six, the BCCI chief said: "We have a chance, we have to win the next two matches. We can't afford to lose any of them." UNI
