As police decides to carry out an independent second autopsy on slain Pakistani cricket coach Bob Woolmer, government pathologist Ere Sheshaiah, who conducted the first post-mortem, said he was confident about the job he had done.
"I took two hours and I did a complete post-mortem. So I arrived at the cause of death and I prepared my report and gave it to the police high command," Sheshaiah said. Asked if no one could question his work, he said "questions are always there". But "I did it to the best of his ability. We did our best," he told NDTV.
Police decided to confirm the first test, which said Woolmer was murdered by "manual strangulation", fearing that anyone ultimately charged with the crime would attempt to smear his findings as flawed.
"If we arrest someone this week and charge them, the defence counsel will want a second post-mortem, the jury may want a second post-mortem," Shields was quoted as saying by the Mirror. The announcement came amid speculation that Sheshaiah may have made mistakes that have beset the murder investigation.
