In the build up to the World Cup, Shaun Pollock had emerged as the controlled spearhead of the Proteas attack. Here, on the big stage, he appears to be every batsman's favorite target. The accuracy that had the Indians, on their recent tour of South Africa, tied in knots has now become Pollock's worst enemy - the other name for accuracy being predictability.
Taking a leaf from the Australian playbook of the other day, Jayasuriya climbed into the bowler, cracking him through cover, extra cover, over the bowler's head and through mid on, in the 5th and 7th overs of the innings; Pollock after four had figures of 4-0-32-0, mirroring his decimation at the hands of the Aussies.
