Dawood is also said to be the brain behind the match-fixing scandal that has been making news since April 2000 when the Delhi police registered a match-fixing case against former South African captain Hansie Cronje. He subsequently died in an air crash.
"This has become a fashion for people to issue statements to be in the limelight. World Cup matches are in progress in West Indies and this man is lodged in Lucknow jail and he has issued a statement that Dawood Ibrahim is behind the murder. But he has nothing to prove. He said that there was no point in joining investigations with the Jamaican police. "The incident has taken place there, so let them investigate," he said.
