251 was not an easy target, but, given the might and depth of South Africa's batting, it seemed 'achievable'. In fact the Rediff.com expert thought South Africa could get to about 260.

The Proteas, therefore, opened with a pressure index (PI) of 92.

Till the 15th over, South Africa were on course with the PI staying around 100. But the back-to-back dismissals of Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers sent the PI up to 132.

South Africa would never recover from this double blow.

Ashwell Prince got run out in the 20th over to send the PI to 150. Justin Kemp and Mark Boucher batted doggedly but could not get Bangladesh's left-arm spinners off their backs. The PI stayed around 150.

The match was practically over when Saqibul Hasan claimed Boucher and Kemp off successive balls, sending the PI to 171.

Bangladesh played with the sort of freedom that they showed against India, and won using essentially the same bowling strategy.

South Africa didn't play like the world's top-ranked team, probably because they aren't the best. The Rediff ODI rankings have always put Australia well ahead of South Africa.
