Air-India on Friday operated a flight to Kuwait after its airport was reopened for civilian air traffic.

The Boeing 747-200 flight took off at 1525 IST, an airline spokesman in Mumbai said.

The flight, orginally scheduled for departure at 0700 IST by an Airbus A310, was later rescheduled to depart at 0830 IST in anticipation that Kuwait airport would be opened. But the flight was cancelled.

Subsequently, on receipt of news about the airport being reopened, the airline decided to operate the flight with a bigger aircraft, the spokesman said.

A-I had on Thursday flown in 1,235 Indian nationals from Kuwait by four special flights.

Early on Friday, Indian Airlines operated a special A320 flight from Kuwait, bringing in 138 passengers and nine infants.
