United States law enforcement authorities will expel about 1000 'dangerous' illegal immigrants, mainly from Pakistan and West Asia, which have been identified by officials as Al Qaeda strongholds.
Under the 'absconder apprehension initiative', the justice department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will focus on about 6,000 immigrants, from countries identified as Al Qaeda's strongholds, out of which 1,000 will be deported next week.
The arrests will begin with the group of 1,000 illegal immigrants, 'who are believed to be the most dangerous because they are convicted felons', the Washington Post quoted officials as saying.
According to estimates by the immigration and naturalisation service, there are an estimated 314,000 foreign nationals, known as 'absconders', who have ignored court orders to leave the country.
