Islamabad airport shut down for two hours

By Our Correspondent in Karachi

Pakistani authorities early on Friday closed Islamabad airport for more than two hours without assigning any reason, a senior aviation official said in Karachi.

"They had closed the Islamabad airport from 0430 hours to 0630 hours (Pakistan standard time)," the official said.

He said a Pakistan International Airlines flight from Manchester (England) to Islamabad was diverted to Karachi.

The airport has been reopened, but security is extremely high, the official said.

Army personnel were guarding both the Islamabad and the Karachi airports.
