Nine dead in US attacks

At least nine civilians were killed when United States-led aircraft targeted Taleban frontlines near Mazar-e-Sharif in north-western Afghanistan and the capital Kabul, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported on Monday.

Three civilians were killed and six injured in air raids in and around Kabul, AIP reported.

One of the targets was a Taleban base south of the capital, it said.

On the north-western front, six persons were killed when one of the bombs hit a house in Keshendeh town near Mazar-e-Sharif, the AIP said.

Meanwhile, the Taleban claimed that a total of 15 civilians were killed in the raids on Sunday night.

It could not be ascertained whether the casualty figures given by the AIP and the Taleban pertained to separate incidents or the same.
