B-52 bomber pounds Taleban frontline positions

A United States B-52 heavy bomber pounded Taleban frontline positions north of Kabul on Friday.

The bomber, which is capable of flying at high subsonic speeds at altitudes up to 50,000 feet, can carry nuclear or precision guided conventional ordnance.

The jet reportedly flew over Taleban frontlines on the Shomali plains at least three times.

The bombs hit a Taleban-controlled hilltop southwest of Bagram airbase, reports said

Shockwaves of the blasts rumbled across the wide valley and plumes of smoke and dust rose over the whole area, it said

A second set of bombs targeted the hills that dominate the skyline to the west of the plains. The B-52 was still audible in the sky at 9:07 hrs, the reports added.
