Sahar International Airport is a poorly organised airport and the procedures involved in getting in and out of the airport are often tedious and lengthy.<UL>

<LI><EM>Baggage storage</EM>: There is a baggage hold area just
outside the main entrance of the airport on the ground floor.

fare of Rs 10.50 for the first 1.5 km and Rs 6 for every kilometre
after that. Except for taxis equipped with electronic meters,
you must pay as per their tariff card (to convert the meter reading
to the correct fare; which is roughly equivalent to meter charge
x 11). Ask them to show you the card.<BR> There are no extras except
for luggage for which approximately Rs 5 charged per piece. Tipping is optional,
although they seem to expect it from foreign tourists. Make sure
he turns down the meter after you get in and if he refuses to
(they may refuse late at night or early in the morning) hail another
cab. Taxis charge half the fare extra between midnight and 0530 hours.<BR>
A taxi fare voucher booth operates at the Sahar International Airport where it is possible to pay one's taxi fare in advance. The fare for these special airport taxis will be higher than the usual fare. The booth clerk then issues a coupon for the amount paid and notes down the license plate of the taxi hired. On arrival at the required destination only Rs 5 per piece of baggage needs to be paid up and a tip, of course, optional.<P>

At the moment only 50 or so taxis are in service in the city and it is difficult to hail one down at a street corner. However a few are now regularly parked at the domestic and international airport. The taxi counter at these airports, that make out fare vouchers may not be very helpful, but there are usually a few taxis parked there.<P>
The AC taxis charge a minimum fare of Rs 13.50 for the first 1.5 kilometre and Rs 7 for every kilometre after that and the usual luggage charge. An AC taxi can be booked by calling the taximan's union at 3078409 or 3078414 or by calling 6131111 and asking them to radio a cab. It is even possible to book one of these cabs for the day unofficially.
