Lines from a Frank Sinatra song is probably what some of the leading ladies of the tennis world had in mind when they descended upon Flushing Meadows to make a mark at this year's US Open.

And by making a mark, we don't just mean their performances and dramatics on court. From big names like Venus Williams to the not so well-known Yanina Wickmayer, most girls have graced the court in quite zany designs.

Tennis fashion takes a new meaning altogether at the Grand Slams.

Norma Godinho glances at what the stars have worn at the US Open so far.

Venus Williams

The elder William sister has to be No 1 on our list, what with her consistent excursions into bizarre fashion statements.

The part-time dress designer -- she has her own clothing line, EleVen -- has worn some seriously bizarre designs at the US Open.

Her latest outfit -- a red sequined dress with a pattern that resembles New York fireworks -- has not pleased many.

'They could be more sophisticated,' New York's Daily News newspaper quoted tennis fashion historian David Rosenberg as saying of Venus's outfits.

Surely Venus could hire a new designer to bring back the right sparks into her dressing.

Maria Sharapova: Colour me blue

The Russian stunner keeps it simple with her blue dresses.

The dresses come in two shades -- a lighter one for day matches and a darker one for night games.

The outfits are simple, non-fussy, and match Maria's personality to a T.

Caroline Wozniacki: Danish designs

Top seed at the US Open, Caroline is the latest favourite among the boys.

In a fitting dress worn with a performance bra-top, the likely Great Dane looks the part of a tennis star, no frills attached.

With a smart dressing style and an equally smart attitude on court, she is the complete package.

The Serbian beauty may be aggressive on court, but her clothes are classic comfortable with a glamorous, yet minimalist, touch.

Ana stands out, despite the simplicity.

Kim Clijsters: Yummy Mummy!

The Comeback Queen and defending US Open champion rarely puts a foot wrong with her outfits. Just like her tennis.

Kim -- whose adorable baby made bigger waves than her after she won the title last year -- favours blue tank tops and skirts, shifting to classic tennis dresses during night matches.

Shahar Peer needs a stylist

The Israeli ace often has the right moves on court, but when it comes to what she wears, well, we think she needs to quickly hire a stylist.

When Peer lost to Venus Williams on Sunday, more than her tennis, we found fault with her clothes.

In a plain aqua blue T-shirt and skirt, she brought down the glamour quotient at Flushing Meadows quite a bit.

Yanina Wickmayer: Plain Jane

A semifinalist at last year's US Open, the Belgian wore a simple pink singlet over a skirt and added nothing more to lend character to her outfit.

No accessories, nothing.

Don't be such a plain Jane, Yanina!

Dominika Cibulkova: Classic white

There is nothing more graceful than a classic white tennis dress and the Slovakian pulls off the prim and proper look with ease.

The top has very minimal design while the skirt has black pipping around the pockets.
