Commonwealth Games gold medallist Suranjoy Singh pummelled Hungary's Dobradi Zsolt in his opening bout to sail into the second round of the World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday.

Suranjoy, also an Asian Games bronze medallist, beat Zsolt 24-8 in a lopsided bout of the first Olympic qualifying event.

The Indian next faces ninth seeded Mongolian Nyambayar Tugstsogt, on October 2.

Tugstsogt, a silver-medallist at the previous edition of the event, defeated Bulgaria's Stefan Ivano 22-15 in his opening bout.

The counter-boxer from Manipur led from the first round itself, finishing the first three minutes ahead 6-4.

He went on the rampage in the second round, notching 11 points against his opponent's one to take firm control over the proceedings.

The final round was a mere formality as Suranjoy added seven points to his tally to register a comprehensive victory.

Suranjoy will have revenge on mind when he takes on Tugstsogt in the next round, as the Mongolian had beaten him by just a point, that too on countback, in the opening round of the previous World Championships.
