Chess wizard Viswanathan Anand's mother, Sushila Viswanathan, passed away in her sleep in Chennai on Wednesday.
She was 79.
Her last rites will be performed on Thursday at 10 am, at Besant Nagar crematorium in Chennai.
She leaves behind her husband, K Viswanathan, daughter and two sons of whom Anand is the youngest.
P R Venkatarama Raja, president All India Chess Federation, condoling the demise, lauded Mrs Viswanathan's dedicated efforts in making Anand a champion chess player.
It was she who taught Anand the basic moves of the game and accompanied him to various events.
