Somdev Devvarman, India’s No 1 singles player, was knocked out of the ATP Atlanta Open by American qualifier Jared Donaldson on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Davis Cupper, who also entered the main draw of the event through the qualifiers, lost 1-6, 6-3, 4-6.

After a sluggish start, Somdev did well to force the decider but the American, 12 years younger than the Indian, cashed in on the lone break he got to make it to the second round of the US $659,070 hardcourt event.

Somdev, who broke only once in the match, did not get any ranking points but pocketed US $6050.

India's Purav Raja is in the fray in the doubles event of the tournament. He and Frenchman Fabrice Martin are up against Treay Huey and Steve Johnson.

Myneni ousted from Lexington Challenger

Saketh Myneni, another Indian Davis Cupper, bowed out of the Lexington ATP Challenger.

He lost 2-6, 1-6 to seventh seeded Briton Liam Broady in just 62 minutes in the opening round match of the US $50,000 hardcourt event.

Broady was dominant in the contest and never faced break-point, breaking Myneni five times in the match.

Meanwhile, Yuki Bhambri was locked 4-4 with Croatian qualifier Matija Ecotic in the opening set when rain halted the match. It will be completed later on Wednesday.

Yuki and Ramkumar Ramanathan may meet in the second round if they win their respective first round matches.

Ramkumar faces Briton Brydan Klein.

In the doubles, Myneni and Ramkumar are in the quarter-finals with their respective partners.

Myneni and Bulgaria's Dimitar Kutrovsky knocked out the top seeded Australian pair of Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 in their opening round.

Ramkumar and his Australian partner, John Millman, routed American wild cards Sam Barnett and Jesse Witten 6-0, 6-0.
