Surender Singh wins 3000m Asian GP gold

Surender Singh won the men's 3000 metres gold as the Indian athletes returned a rich a haul of nine medals at the Asian Grand Prix in Suzhou, China, on Saturday.

Apart from Surender's gold, four Indians finished second in their events while four others grabbed third spots.

In the men's 3000m, Surender finished in 7:59.52 seconds, while team-mates Ravinder and Sandip Kumat Batham followed him in second and third positions respectively.

Krishna Poonia won the silver in the women's discus throw with a heave of 57.26 metres but her distance was way behind the winner, Asian Games champion Song Aimin, who registered 63.91 metres. Seema Antil bagged the bronze with 55.94 metres.

Om Prakash Singh set a new personal best outside of India with a throw of 19.36 metres in the men's shot put, but it was not enough to beat Chang Minghuang of Chinese Taipei, who heaved the shot to 19.45 metres.

Asian junior medallist Saurabh Vij took the bronze medal with 18.56 metres.
