India's Joshna Chinappa kept the tri-colour fluttering by progressing into the semi-finals of the women's singles, even as compatriot Dipika Pallikal bowed out of the USD 25,000 Macau Open squash tournament on Friday.
World ranked 51st and qualifier, Chinappa battled to a five-game victory over Japan's Misaki Kobayashi in the quarter-finals and set up a last-four clash against top-seed Joelle King of New Zealand.
The 26-year-old Chennai girl prevailed over Kobayashi 11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-6 in a battle that lasted over an hour.
Meanwhile, it was curtains for India's top-ranked female player Pallikal as she was stunned by eighth seed, Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt in a five-setter.
World ranked 14th and second seed in the tournament, Pallikal went down fighting 11-9, 5-11, 11-6, 12-14, 7-11 to former world number 4 Kawy, much to the disappointment of sparse crowd.
The tournament witnessed a host of upsets as just three seeds made it through to the semifinals of the WSA World Tour silver event.
