A six-member Indian team, including Asian Games bronze medallist Ashish Kumar, was picked on Monday to represent the country at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, to be held at Stuttgart, Germany from October 4 to 13.

Besides Ashish (Railways), who won bronze at the 2010 Asiad, the Indian men's team will also have Yogeshwar Singh (SSCB) and Aditya Singh Rana (Railways).

Pranati Nayak, who had won a bronze in vault event at the Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Mongolia earlier this year, will lead the Indian women's team, which also comprises Pranati Das and Aruna Budda Reddy, who had claimed bronze at 2018 Gymnastics World Cup.

A total of 18 men and 12 women gymnasts participated at the selection trials conducted by the selection committee at the Indira Gandhi stadium here on Monday.

The committee comprised Onmar Singh (IOA representative), Gymnastic Federation of India (GFI) president Narender Singh Mor, GFI secretary Kulwinder Singh, Kalpana Debnath (representing TEAMS Division, SAI), IS Pabla (SAI project officer for Gymnastics) and G S Bawa (Coordinator).

Earlier this month, a two-day open selection trials to select the team for the World Championships was postponed after the Sports Authority of India (SAI) requested the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to conduct the trials.

The Sports Ministry last week wrote to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to allow the committee, headed by IOA, to select the team for the tournament, which is also an Olympic qualifier.

However, FIG Deputy Secretary General Nicolas Buompane made it clear that only the Gymnastic Federation of India (GFI) has the right to select the team.

"The decision of who is part of the delegation at our World Championships and the right to register athletes for these events is the only prerogative of our member," Nicolas said in his letter to the Ministry.

"As long as GFI is in good standing with us, we can and shall therefore only accept registrations duly signed by their President or Secretary General we recognise.

"We are confident that they will organise fair qualifications respecting their rules and statues."

IOA to form CSR committee

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is likely to set up a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee in a bid to increase corporate funding.

In a directive issued by IOA president Narinder Batra, it said that the proposed committee will be making presentations before CSR boards of PSUs and big corporate houses (both in person and/or through written proposals) so as to convince them to adopt sports activities

as their CSR.

The directive also urged other IOA members to also make their own efforts in the direction.

There was also a proposal to form a section in the IOA's website where all documents related to CSR can be uploaded along with links to websites of the companies who have adopted sports activity as CSR.

The IOA will also try to register its members as Implementing Agency for CSR with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

IOA apprises World Archery of eight-member team for 3rd Asian Para Championship

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Monday wrote to World Archery Federation, apprising the governing body of the eight-member team selected for the 3rd Asian Para Championship to be held at Bangkok from October 18 to 26.

Vivek Chikara, Harvinder Singh and Rajesh were picked in the Recurve Men Open, while Shyam Sunder Swami, Harmanjot Singh and Kuldeep Sharma comprised the Compound Men Open team, and Jyoti Baliyan and Mital Gaikward were selected in the Compound Women Open, the IOA said in its letter.

"It has been resolved unanimously by the Transitory Committee that the Para Selection Trials conducted on 12th and 13th August, 2019 at Sonepat, Haryana would be considered for the selection of team for 3rd Asian Para Championship," said IOA president Narinder Dhruv Batra in his letter.

"Of eight selected para archers, two archers (Harmanjot Singh and Kuldeep Sharma) are non-classified who will have to appear first for classification test in Bangkok prior to the championship.

"We would also request you to allow Mr parvesh (recurve men open) for classification test who performed well in the selection trials but couldn't get into the team," he added.

In the letter addressed to Tom Dielen, Secretary General of World Archery Federation, Batra informed that "all five members of Court appointed Transitory Committee of Archery Association of India met on 14th September, 2019 at New Delhi".
