Angelica Bengtsson (Sweden)

Pole vaulter Angelica Bengtsson was one of Sweden's main medal hopes.

The 20-year-old World junior record holder, however, finished 16th with a clearance of 4.45 metres.

High jump pin-up girl Anna Chicherova managed a bronze in Moscow.

The Olympic and World champion was also runner-up at the World Championships in 2007 and 2009.

Melissa Breen (Australia)

Australia disappointed in Moscow but this striking beauty stood out in the heats.

The sprinter considered her 200 metres heat a learning experience after after drawing the lane inside Jamaica's gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in her heat and finished seventh in 23.85 seconds.

Darya Klishina (Russia)

Russia’s Darya Klishina made everyone stand up and pay attention to her stunning looks. In addition to athletics, this long jumper is also a model. She finished seventh in her event.

Meghan Beesley (Great Britain)

Britain’s Meghan Beesley was 'miss sunshine' in the women's 400 metres hurdles. She claimed a new personal best on her World Championships debut.

She smashed her best in the first of two 400m hurdles semi-finals, clocking 54.97 seconds to become only the sixth girl in British history to go under 55 seconds. She finished sixth, edged out of fifth and qualification, by only three hundredths of a second.

Sally Pearson is one of the finest athletes Australia has produced.
