Indian shooters way off mark

Indian shooters again failed to match their formidable rivals with Harven Srao finishing 19th in the women's 10m Air Pistol in the ISSF World Cup in Milan.

Srao, who had finished 32nd with a total of 379 in the Munich World Cup last week, shot a 380 to finish 19th.

The gold medal went to Korea's Ho Lim Lee, who totaled 485.9 points. Lee recorded scores of 387 in the preliminary round followed by a 98.9 in the final.

The other Indians in the event, 18-year-old Shweta Chaudhary finished 44th while Saroja Kumari ended 70th.

In the men's 10m Air Pistol, Samresh Jung emerged the best among the three Indians in the fray, finishing 28th with a score of 576 points. Jung, who won the silver medal in the event in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, was 67th in Munich with a score of 570 points.

Talented youngster Ronak Pandit ended 51st with a score of 571 while Vijay Kumar was 73rd with 564 points. Chinese Tian Zhang won the gold with 689.1 points (590 + 99.1).

In the women's 50m Rifle 3 Position, Meena Kumari shot better than seasoned campaigner Deepali Deshpande to finish 51st with 565 points.

Deepali ended 56th with 557 points. German Sonja Pfeilschifter won the gold with a score of 688 points (589 + 99).
