Security for 2010 CWG adequate: Chidambaram

Union home minister P Chidambaram, who gave monthly update to newsmen at a press conference, said that adequate security arrangements have been made to provide protection to the athletes and others who come to attend the Commonwealth Games next year.

"We are as much ready as we should," he said.

The minister said that as a part of the security measures 22 new police stations have been notified besides notifying 9 subdivisions.

"Rs 5.51 croroes would be spent on purchase of new vehicles that include 38 Maruti Gypsies,270 motor cycles, 29 pick up vans. And Rs 60 crores have been sanctioned for anti-sabotage activities. This includes purchasing of anti-sabotage equipment,mine sweapers and non linear junction detectors," Chidambaram said.

When asked how the Chinese were involved in the road construction in Himachal Pradesh he said that he was not of any such activity.

Incidenally which Himachal Pradesh are you talking about, Chidambaram preferred not to comment any further.

He said that the government of India would provide work permist to those Chinese who have highly skillful.

"Any request for work permit would be sent to labour ministry that would decide whether to grant permit or not.

"In case we could do that cheap labour in India in such case work permit would be denied to those applying for this facility. Right now all those working have business visa," he pointed out.
