Sania Mirza has expressed that she felt ' honoured' and ' humbled' after being conferred with India's third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan for her contribution in the sport of tennis.
"Humbled. Honoured. And truly thankful ... #PadmaBhushan," the 29-year-old tennis ace tweeted after being presented with the prestigious award by President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Saina had lifted two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and US Open last year with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis. The world number one women's doubles pair enjoyed an unbeaten streak of 41 games till February this year.
Earlier, ace shuttler Saina Nehwal and archer Deepika Kumari were conferred with Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards respectively for their distinguished contribution to sports in the country.
