China got its first gold at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics thanks to some sharp shooting skills by Olympic debutant Zhang Mengxue on Sunday.

South Korea take gold in women’s team archery
South Korea won their eighth consecutive gold medal in women's team archery after beating Russia by five set points to one in the final.
Earlier, Russia edged past India 4-5 in the quarter-final round.
Chinese Taipei took the bronze medal after beating Italy in the third-place play-off.
Their win came a day after South Korea restored their dynasty in the men's team event with victory over the United States. They had suffered a shock defeat to the Americans in the London Games' semi-finals.
The men's team roared from the crowd with every arrow, watching a performance to inspire them for the individual event.
Kosovo’s Kelmendi wins gold in women's 52kg judo
Majlinda Kelmendi made history at the Rio Games on Sunday as she won gold in the women's judo, becoming the first athlete from Kosovo to win an Olympic medal after overcoming Italy's Odette Giuffrida in a tense duel.
Kelmendi, ranked second in her -52kg weight class, topped 10th-seeded Giuffrida with a single point from a yuko that had initially been judged to be a more valuable waza-ari.
Rio marks the first Oympics at which athletes are competing under the flag of Kosovo, which proclaimed independence from Serbia in 2008 and which was accepted as a member of the International Olympic Committee in 2014.
The two-times World champion, who was Kosovo's flag-bearer at Friday's opening ceremony, represented Albania at the London Games in 2012 but she went home without a medal that time.
Japan's Misato Nakamura and Russia's Natalia Kuziutina won bronze.
Italy's Basile stuns top seed to take gold in 66kg judo
Italy's Fabio Basile, ranked 29th in his weight class, stunned top seed An Baul of South Korea to win gold in the men's -66kg judo on Sunday.
The 21-year-old had been on fire all day, winning his first three contests by ippon - judo's equivalent of a knockout - including beating second-ranked Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj of Mongolia.
World champion An had also been on a tear, overcoming Japanese ace Masashi Ebinuma to reach the final, but he was no match for Basile who tossed him for an ippon to put an exclamation point on his victory.
Ebinuma and Uzbekistan's Rishod Sobirov won bronze.
Chinese duo win women’s 3m Synchronised Springboard
China's Wu Minxia became the Olympics' most decorated female diver on Sunday with her gold medal in the women's 3 meters synchronized springboard.
The 30-year-old and partner Shi Tingmao beat their competition in all five dives for a score of 345.6, way ahead of Italy's Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallape on 313.83 points.
Australia took the bronze with 299.19 points.
China's win gave Wu her seventh Olympic medal, allowing her to top former partner and "big sister" Guo Jingjing for the most for a female diver. She was previously tied with her countrywoman on six.
She has now also won the most Olympic diving gold medals, overtaking athletes including the United States' Greg Louganis and Pat McCormick on four; clinched the most gold medals in one diving event; and became the oldest woman to win an Olympic diving gold medal.
Dutchwoman Van Der Breggen wins women’s Road Race gold
The Netherlands' Anna van der Breggen won gold in the women's road race after out-sprinting Sweden's Emma Johansson at the end of 141km race.
Elisa Longo Borghini was third for Italy.
American Mara Abbott missed out on a place on the podium after she was caught by the chasing pack just 300m from the finish line, while Annemiek van Vleuten was leading up until the 10km mark, when the 33-year-old Dutchwoman suffered a horrific crash.
Australia’s Skinner wins women’s trap shooting
Australia's Catherine Skinner, 26, edged a tense final against Natalie Rooney of New Zealand to win the gold medal.
American Corey Cogdell won her second bronze medal by besting Spain's Fatima Galvez in a shoot-off.
The 26-year-old Skinner hit 12 of her 15 orange targets with her shotgun to Rooney's 11, but she got off to a rough start by missing the first target.
After qualifying at the bottom of the six finalists, Skinner was a steady shot in the semi-finals blasting 14 of the 15 targets and went straight to the final, prevailing over a veteran field including defending Olympic champion Jessica Rossi.
China's Zhang wins gold in women’s 10m Air Pistol
First-time Olympian Zhang Mengxue secured China's first gold medal of the 2016 Olympics on Sunday by winning the women's 10-metre air pistol event and extending China's gold medal streak in the sport.
With a score of 199.4 points in 20 shots, the 25-year-old Zhang handily defeated Vitalina Batsarashkina from Russia, the silver medallist with a score of 197.1. Anna Korakaki from Greece won the bronze.
Zhang kept China in top standing in the event after countrywoman and London 2012 and Beijing 2008 gold medallist Guo Wenjun failed to qualify for the finals, finishing in 30th place.
Zhang established her lead midway through the event and pulled away with a 10.9 perfect shot in the final rounds. Her score is an Olympic record under the new finals format.
