Manchester United may soon follow in the footsteps of other Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle.
The club is on the threshold of being resold.
A sovereign wealth fund, expected to be Qatar Holding, has evinced an interest to take control of the Old Trafford club, reports The Sunday Times.
The offer is to the tune of a 1.5 billion pounds.
According to the report cited in the paper, the Glazer family, the current owners held discussions in December with an investment group controlled by the Qatari royal family.
The approach came close on the heels of Qatar winning the right to stage the 2022 World Cup finals.
However, the discussions suffered because of the Americans' excessive demands - the Glazers value Man United at close to 2 billion pounds but the prsopective buyers are unwilling to pay more than 1.5 billion.
The club officials though have denied there had been any approach while reiterating that United was not for sale.
