Leander Paes and Martina Hingis thrashed Austrian-Hungarian fifth seeds Alexander Peya and Timea Babos 6-1, 6-1 to win the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon.

The Indo-Swiss pair, seeded seventh, had started the year by winning the Australian Open.

In the final at the All England Club they won 55 points to just 20 for their higher seeded opponents.

For Hingis, it was her third mixed doubles title at a major tournament, having also won at Melbourne Park in 2006, in partnership with Mahesh Bhupathi.

The Swiss Miss also partnered another Indian (Sania Mirza) to win the Ladies Doubles title here this year.

On the other hand Paes was gunning for his 16th major trophy, in his 33rd final.

The 42-year-old Indian ace has now won eight men's doubles titles and an equal number of mixed doubles titles at Grand Slam events.

The haul includes one men's doubles and four mixed doubles titles at Wimbledon. His previous three successes in the mixed doubles came with three different partners - with American Lisa Raymond in 1999, the legendary Martina Navratilova in 2003 and Zimbabwean Cara Black in 2010.

Paes was also the beaten finalist at the All England Club in 2009 (with Black) and 2012 (with Elena Vesnina).

Paes and Hingis had defeated American top seeds Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final.
