The Indian challenge in the Olympics table tennis tournament came to a tame end when Commonwealth champion Achanta Sharath Kamal lost his second round match in straight games in Athens on Sunday.

Kamal, ranked 49th in the event, went down to 25th ranked Lai Chak Ko of Hong Kong 9-11, 5-11, 9-11, 6-11.

The lone Indian woman paddler Mouma Das had on Saturday lost in the first round of the singles event.

Though the 22-year-old Indian national champion lost in straight sets it was not at all a cakewalk for his fancied opponent.

The Chennai-based paddler had defeated Mohamed Boudjadja of Alegeria in the opening round on Saturday and will be satisfied with his performance at the Games since he was never a medal prospect and had set himself a goal of clearing the first hurdle before leaving from India.
