World number one Nicol David secured a record-equalling fifth World Open title by beating Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 at the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh on Wednesday.

Malaysia's David needed only 30 minutes on the all-glass court to match the haul of Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald, who collected her titles between 1996 and 2002.

The 27-year-old David's third straight world title confirmed her dominance of the women's game after she completed 50 consecutive months at the top of the world rankings.

"My focus was strong throughout the tournament," David told reporters. "I really wanted this. I did not want to let it slip.

"It's amazing that I can do something that Sarah (Fitz-Gerald) has done, because she's such a great player," she added.

David also kept her undefeated record this year intact and she did not drop a game en route to her fifth world title.
