Hamilton puts Pistons in first-place tie with Cavs

Richard Hamilton scored 18 points to push the Detroit Pistons into a first-place tie with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Central Division after a 91-61 romp over the New York Knicks at Auburn Hills, Michigan, Saturday.

Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess added 16 points apiece as the defending NBA champion Pistons chalked up their third straight win.

The Knicks recorded a season-low points total, three short of the franchise's all-time worst output of 58.

Detroit coach Larry Brown did not talk to the media before the game for the first time in his 1-1/2 years with the team and also skipped the post-game news conference.

News reports in Detroit suggest that Brown, who still has more than three years left on his contract, wants to leave the Pistons at the end of the season to coach the Knicks.

Jamal Crawford led the way with 14 points but New York still lost for the 12th time in 14 contests.

Stephon Marbury picked up 10 points for the Knicks, who were without Penny Hardaway due to a sprained ankle.

In Indianapolis, Kenyon Martin had 25 points and five steals as the Denver Nuggets won their second straight game under new coach George Karl, downing the Indiana Pacers 95-88.

Marcus Camby added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Nuggets while Carmelo Anthony notched 15 points.

Jermaine O'Neal had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who have lost four games in a row. Jamaal Tinsley collected 14 points and 10 assists while Stephen Jackson added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

In Washington, Steve Francis poured in 32 points as the Orlando Magic beat the Wizards for the second successive night, 103-97.

Grant Hill added 27 points for the Magic. Francis also had nine rebounds and seven assists as Orlando completed a sweep of the back-to-back

games.

Gilbert Arenas led Washington with 37 points and Antawn Jamison had 18.

In San Antonio, Tony Parker contributed 23 points and 10 assists to help the Spurs improve to 23-1 at home with a 93-83 triumph over the New Orleans Hornets.

Tim Duncan claimed 12 points and 14 rebounds for San Antonio (36-10). Dan Dickau had 16 points for New Orleans (8-35).

In Salt Lake City, Vince Carter piled up 30 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as the New Jersey Nets scored an easy 99-82 victory over the Utah Jazz.

Jason Kidd added 19 points and 10 assists for the Nets, who led by 24 points after three quarters. Raja Bell led Utah with 20 points.

In Chicago, Ricky Davis scored 24 points as the Boston Celtics rallied to defeat the Bulls 101-97.

Gary Payton had 23 points for Boston. Rookie Ben Gordon notched a career-high 31 points for the Bulls, who have lost to the Celtics twice this month.

In Dallas, John Salmons registered a season-high 19 points to carry the Philadelphia 76ers, without the injured Allen Iverson, past the Mavericks 93-89.

Kyle Korver added 16 points for the Sixers. Dirk Nowitzki had 25 points, nine rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots for Dallas while Erick Dampier posted a career-high 26 rebounds along with 14 points.

In Memphis, Jason Williams recorded 23 points and eight assists as the Grizzlies edged the Atlanta Hawks 84-83.

Al Harrington had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks.

In Los Angeles, Elton Brand picked up 27 points and eight assists to power the Clippers past the Golden State Warriors 96-85.

Zeljko Rebraca had 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Clippers. James Richardson led Golden State with 29 points.
