Sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych lost in straight sets to Steve Darcis of Belgium on Saturday in the first round of Olympic play at Wimbledon.

Darcis won 6-4, 6-4, with solid serving and groundstrokes. On matchpoint, he hit a series of crosscourt backhand slices before the Czech lofted a ball out.

Berdych reached the Wimbledon final in 2010, losing to Rafael Nadal. Darcis, ranked 75, reached his career-high ranking of 44 in 2008.

Ivanovic beats McHale in 1st round
Ana Ivanovic beat Christina McHale of the United States, 6-4, 7-5, on Saturday in the first round of Olympic play at Wimbledon.

The 11th-seeded Serb raised her fist in triumph when McHale hit a backhand into the net on Ivanovic's second match point.

Ivanovic won the French Open in 2008.

Clijsters romps past Vinci
Kim Clijsters won her Olympic debut at Wimbledon on Saturday, defeating Roberta Vinci of Italy, 6-1, 6-4.

The Belgian veteran, who has won four majors, could face fifth-seeded Samantha Stosur in the next round.

Clijsters was playing in the Olympics for the first time. She missed the Beijing Games in 2008 because she was in the middle of a two-year retirement. She plans to retire after the US Open this year.
