India's Rushmi Chakravarthi stormed into the quarter-finals while wild card Iciri Rai's progress was halted in the second round in the Mother's Recipe-ITF US$10,000 Women's Futures Tennis Tournament at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Seeded No. 2, Chakravarthi, the highest ranked Indian at 357 in the Women's Tennis Association rankings, demolished qualifier Minori Takemoto of Japan 6-0, 6-1 in 40 minutes.

In contrast, Rai, ranked 782 in the WTA rankings, was ousted by unseeded Satomi Kinjo of Japan 2-6, 4-6 in a little over an hour.

After being broken in the first and fifth games of the opening set, Rai failed to take advantage of a 3-0 lead with an early break in the second set. But Kinjo was in devastating form and stormed back into the match by breaking back in the fifth and seventh games to lead 4-3.

Kinjo's comeback rattled the Indian, who only managed to hold serve in the ninth game before the Japanese, ranked 678 in the world, served for the set and match.

Late Tuesday, Liza Pereira of India stretched Kinjo in a first round tie before losing 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, while Krushmi Chheda, also of India, crashed to Kavitha Krishnamurthy of Canada 0-6, 0-6.
