Indians win 20 medal in Special Olympics World Winter Games

Indian athletes have won 20 medals, including six gold, in the ongoing 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games at Pyeong Chang, South Korea.

The 12-year-old Anishka Upadhyay from Lucknow, the youngest delegate at the Games, won two gold in Alpine Skiing in the event competed by over 2200 mentally-challenged athletes from over 120 countries.

India have so far won six gold, six silver and eight bronze in the eight-day event which began on January 29 and will end on February 5.

Raj Kumar Tiwari won a gold in Figure Skating and a silver in the Doubles Skating with Kirti Kalra, another Special Olympics Bharat skater.

Kriti and Simran are two sisters with hearing disabilities who glide like angels on the skating rink, performing to music they can barely hear, a special Olympics Bharat release said.

The Games are being competed in eight sports – alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, figure skating, short track speed skating, floor hockey and floorball.
