India is drawn in Group D for the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Following the draw for AFC nations, in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, India was grouped with Iran, Oman, India, Turkmenistan and Guam.

Forty teams are divided into groups of eight, with five in each.

The teams finishing among the top 12 proceed to the next round.

India’s first match is at home against Oman on June 11, while the second is away on June 16, against Guam.

"It's a tough draw but it's always better to be in the draw than out of it, and we will do all what is possible to get a result.

"One doesn't need to explain the strength of Iran and Oman. Iran are the highest ranked Asian country while Oman are a very strong side," said coach Stephen Constantine.

"Regardless of the FIFA rankings, I am aware of the difficulties of playing against Turkmenistan and Guam. Guam, in fact, have made tremendous progress in the last two years under a fellow-English coach,” he added.

On Monday Constantine said in an interview that India will have it tough, but are ready for the challenge.

"It's difficult to say before the draw but whoever we get in our group, all the games will be tough, especially after the last few years we have had, there are no easy games for us."

For the record, Iran ranked 40th, is the highest ranked Asian team in the FIFA rankings at the moment, while Oman is on 97.

India, courtesy their current FIFA ranking (147 -- April 2015) was placed in Pot 3.

The team rose 26 places in the FIFA rankings after defeating Nepal 2-0 on aggregate in the joint-preliminary qualification Round 1 in March 2015.
