Yusuf Yakubu scored a brace as Salgaocar demolished Viva Kerala 4-0 to climb to the top of the points table in their 14th round I-League match at the Nehru stadium in Margao on Sunday.
Salgaocar, who beat Viva Kerala 3-0 in the first leg, led 2-0 at half time scored through a brace from Man of the Match Yakubu (34th, 67th) and a goal each from Ryuji Sueoka (39th) and substitute Ekene M Ikenwa (injury time).
The win takes Salgaocar's tally to 31 points from 14 matches the same as East Bengal, but their impressive win put them at the top of the table as they now have better goal difference of 16, against East Bengal's 15.
Mum FC defeat Air India 1-0 in derby clash
Mumbai FC defeated Air India 1-0 in a 14th round I-League derby clash to notch up their seventh win of the tournament in Kolhapur on Sunday.
Henry Ezeh scored the only goal of the match in the 15th minute.
Following this win, Mumbai FC, who were struggling to stave off relegation last year, have strengthened their position in the top half of the table and are fifth with 24 points.
The airmen have 10 points from 14 matches.
