Churchill Brothers took full advantage of a weak Chirag United defence to register a 5-3 away win in a round 13 I-League match at Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday.
Kayne Vincent, who was adjudged man-of-the-match, struck a brace (10th and 78th), while Steven Dias (21st), Boima Karpeh (49th) and Amauri Neto (70th) fired one each in the high-octane clash.
Chirag United reduced the margin through Elijah Junior (19th and 65th) and Malswamtulunga (57th).
The Goan giants with 26 points are now clinging to third spot on the table as the big win meant that they have the highest goal difference (19), having scored 33 goals already.
Chirag United have 18 points and are placed at the seventh spot.
Pune FC thrash Indian Arrows
Three second half goals, including a brace by Brazilian Edmar Figueira helped hosts Pune FC trounce Delhi-based Indian Arrows 3-0 in a 13th round I League encounter at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune on Saturday.
After a barren first half, Pune FC penetrated into their rivals citadel thrice in 15 minutes as Indian Arrows, earlier known as AIFF XI, lost the plot completely on the other side of the break.
Pune FC's Japanese talisman Arata Izumi broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after which Figueira scored twice in the 71st and 78th minute to help the hosts register their third win of this I-League season.
With this win Pune FC now have 14 points from 13 matches, while the visitors have 13 points from as many games.
Mumbai FC settle for 1-1 draw against JCT
Hosts Mumbai FC blew away the chance to take the fourth spot in the points table as visitors
JCT Phagwara came from a goal down to draw the round 13 I-League tie 1-1 at the Shahu Maharaj ground in Kolhapur on Saturday.
After a barren first half, Mumbai FC broke the shackles through Ebi Sukore, who dribbled past two JCT players and scored in the 57th minute.
However, a misunderstanding between Mumbai FC custodian Amit Singha Roy and a defender saw JCT's Amandeep Singh taking advantage as he lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper to snatch a point for the visitors.
Following the draw, Mumbai FC have 21 points from 13 games and continue to be in the fourth place, while JCT have 13 points from as many games.
